Codex Vaticanus Graece 1209, B/03
Site info and news
I have set up this site to present some info on the worlds single most important biblical manuscript, Codex Vaticanus Graece 1209, B/03. Recently there has been made a new discovery by Philip Payne, the so called "umlauts", double dots which seem to indicate textual variants. This site describes the codex and these umlauts.
All images on this site are taken from the new 1999 colour facsimile. This is a limited edition of 500 exemplars, available for $5.000 (sic!) at: Casalini libri.
The cataloguing work has been done in June 2001 with the new colour facsimile, which has been made available by a generous loan from the library of Berlin. THANK YOU!
I would also like to thank Maurice Robinson for many helpful discussions and Paul Canart of the Vatican library for being so kind and checking the original for me. THANK YOU!

2nd October 2001: The word-order umlaut added Several requests came in about the text at the double dot positions. I have confined my presentation because a student of Maurice Robinson is currently working on exactly this: Variants at the umlauts and their witnesses. I do not want to spoil this work. He is investing much time and the outcome will surely be better than mine. My contribution is more to give the basics, show interesting things, scrutinize several assumptions and ask questions. It is meant as a start for discussion. In the future I will certainly present more stuff including discussion of variants. |
